What is Influenza?

Influenza (flu) is a highly contagious viral infection that affects your respiratory system. Unlike a common cold, flu often comes on suddenly and can cause severe illness, leading to complications like bronchitis or pneumonia, particularly in vulnerable individuals.
At Livewell Clinic Pharmacy, we offer a convenient, private Winter Flu Jab Service at our Soho, London clinic. For the 2026/2027 flu season, we offer two distinct trivalent vaccine options to suit your preferences, budget, and specific clinical needs.

Why Get Vaccinated Against the Flu?
The flu virus evolves every year, which means last year’s vaccine no longer offers full protection. Getting vaccinated annually with the updated strain composition recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) is the most effective way to safeguard your health:
-
Reduce Severe Illness: Lower your risk of catching the flu and developing severe respiratory complications.
-
Protect Vulnerable Loved Ones: Prevent spreading the virus to infants, elderly relatives, or immunocompromised individuals.
-
Flexible Private Access: Avoid waiting for NHS eligibility criteria or appointment queues.
-
Rapid Protection: Antibody protection builds fully within 2 to 3 weeks after vaccination.

We offer two types of 2026/2027 trivalent seasonal flu vaccines:

Who can receive the private flu vaccine at Livewell Clinic Pharmacy?
Our private service is open to all adults aged 18 and over who want private seasonal protection. If you are eligible for a free NHS flu jab (e.g. clinical risk groups, carers, NHS staff), you can choose to receive it via your GP or an NHS-contracted pharmacy, or book privately with us for convenience.

Can I get vaccinated if I am pregnant?
Yes. Vaccination is strongly recommended at any stage of pregnancy to protect both mother and baby. Both the Cell-Based and Vaxigrip vaccines are suitable for pregnant women.

Who should NOT receive the vaccine?
You should postpone or avoid vaccination if you:
-
Have had a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to a previous flu vaccine or any of its ingredients.
-
Are currently unwell with a high fever or acute illness on the day of your appointment.

What are the common side effects?
The flu jab is an inactivated vaccine and cannot cause flu. Side effects are generally mild and resolve within 1 to 2 days:
-
Mild soreness, redness, or swelling at the injection site
-
Mild muscle aches or headache
-
Fatigue or a slightly elevated temperature
Can I receive the flu jab alongside other vaccines?
Yes, the flu vaccine can safely be co-administered alongside other vaccines, such as the COVID-19 booster or HPV vaccine at a separate injection site.
